Using STA Anesthesia in Dentistry

Using STA Anesthesia in Dentistry

Many clinics promise painless teeth treatment.

How to get this “magic”? Sometimes, on seeing a syringe, needle or just realizing that an injection will be made, the patient is already experiencing some fear and discomfort.

In 1997, USA dentists began to use a new method of pain relief – computer anesthesia STA. The full name is Single Tooth Anesthesia System, which translates as anesthesia for one tooth.

The pain relief principle with applying the STA method is quite simple: with the help of a special syringe pen using a thin Luer needle an anesthetic is injected. As soon as the cap touches the gum, tissue resistance information is transmitted to the STA. The device adapts to the characteristics of the tissues, choosing the speed, pressure, and volume of anesthetic. These parameters are controlled using a special microprocessor DPS (Dynamic Pressure Sensing).

At the same time, the patient does not feel pain and discomfort as with classical injection anesthesia. (Using the STA Single Tooth Anesthesia System™ Unit John L. Santopolo, DDS, MScD, 2010).

The Single Tooth Anesthesia System helps to turn caries or pulpitis treatment into a more comfortable procedure for the patient.

STA Anesthesia in Dentistry

Benefits of using computer anesthesia STA

  1. The ability to anesthetize the manipulation area in a few seconds.
  2. Almost painless the puncture itself. The patient does not feel it.
  3. Minimization or absence of postoperative pain from injection. Thanks to the automatic regulation of the pressure and volume of the anesthetic, children practically feel no pain after treatment (J Dent Anesth Pain Med. «Computerized intraligamental anesthesia in children», Aug 2018; 18 (4): 197–204).
  4. Essential in children’s dentistry because a small patient does not see a needle or a syringe.
  5. The minimum required amount of anesthetic. Anesthetic injection is computer controlled.
  6. Reducing the risk of complications in high blood pressure patients and pregnant women.
  7. There is no feeling of numbness in half of the face / jaw during the day after the treatment. After the procedure is completed, the facial muscles, lips, and tongue move normally. It is possible to immediately begin the usual way of life.

In the USA and European countries, the STA method of computer anesthesia has been adopted as a standard of pain management in dentistry.

In Ukraine, few clinics offer computer anesthesia services. But, we are among them.

Using computer anesthesia in our work turns an anesthetic injection into one of the simplest manipulations.
